Amid growing speculation, fresh developments have emerged in the ongoing Alexander Isak saga as uncertainty over his Newcastle future continues.
Liverpool’s summer window has been dominated by pursuit of attacking reinforcements, with Isak consistently at the top of their shortlist.
Now, according to Fabrizio Romano, the 24-year-old has informed Newcastle he will not be part of the squad for this weekend’s clash with Aston Villa or next week’s game against Liverpool.
He has also rejected multiple new contract offers from the Magpies, with his “clear desire” remaining a move to Anfield as soon as possible.
Liverpool have kept Isak as their top attacking target all summer, but Newcastle are yet to accept any approach.
Personal terms are not expected to be an issue, meaning the saga now rests on whether the Reds return with a bid the Magpies are willing to consider before the transfer window closes.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe admitted that Isak’s continued absence has been a major challenge:
“I don’t think it’s been healthy for us.
To miss him from your squad leaves a huge gap.”
Isak has been training away from the first team, missing key fixtures and disrupting preparations for the new campaign.
While Howe wants the Sweden international to stay, he has conceded that final decisions on the forward’s future will be made at board level — leaving the club in limbo.
In a separate update, Romano revealed that Liverpool have completed the signing of Giovanni Leoni from Parma.
The highly rated Italian, who broke into Parma’s first team last season, is viewed as a long-term prospect but will join Arne Slot’s senior squad immediately.
